Al--Qaida has sent a message to the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, asking him to stop spreading conspiracy theories about the 9/11 attacks.
Iranian media on Wednesday reported quotes from what appears to be an article published in the latest issue of the al-Qaida English language magazine, Inspire, which described Ahmadinejad's remarks over the 11 September attacks as "ridiculous".
In his UN general assembly speech last week, Ahmadinejad cast doubt over the official version of the 2001 attacks.
"The Iranian government has professed on the tongue of its president Ahmadinejad that it does not believe that al-Qaida was behind 9/11 but rather, the US government," the article said, according to Iranian media. "So we may ask the question: why would Iran ascribe to such a ridiculous belief that stands in the face of all logic and evidence?"
Ahmadinejad said in New York that the "mysterious September 11 incident" had been used as a pretext to attack Afghanistan and Iraq. He had also previously expressed scepticism at the US version of events.
"By using their imperialistic media network which is under the influence of colonialism, they threaten anyone who questions the Holocaust and the September 11 event with sanctions and military actions," said Ahmadinejad.
The al-Qaida article insisted it had been behind the attacks and criticised the Iranian president for discrediting the terrorist group.
"For them, al-Qaida was a competitor for the hearts and minds of the disenfranchised Muslims around the world," said the article published in the Inspire magazine. "Al-Qaida … succeeded in what Iran couldn't. Therefore it was necessary for the Iranians to discredit 9/11 and what better way to do so? Conspiracy theories."

Salon's conspiracy theory
Salon has published an allegedly anti-conspiracy-theory column by Alexander Cockburn (read here) in which he hypocritically promotes the granddaddy of all conspiracy theories: that Franklin Roosevelt knew about the Japanese plan to attack Pearl Harbor and deliberately allowed it to happen in order to provide an excuse for the U.S. to enter World War II.
With unintended irony, Cockburn gives his column the headline "The end of evidence". In it he writes:
I think there is strong evidence that FDR did have knowledge that a Japanese naval force in the north Pacific was going to launch an attack on Pearl Harbor. It's quite possible Roosevelt thought it would be a relatively mild assault and thought it would be the final green light to get the U.S. into the war.
That's all he writes about FDR's purported culpability for Pearl Harbor. While Cockburn "think(s) there is strong evidence", he does not provide any of it. Considering the seriousness of the charge, his offhanded assessment of the truthiness of this implausible conspiracy defies logic. That he makes this unsupported assertion in the context of criticizing the fact-free arguments of the 9/11 truth movement highlights the flawed logic of both. Cockburn and Salon apparently believe that it's wrong to argue without citing evidence that world events are controlled by massive conspiracies, except when they feel like doing so themselves.
Even Cockburn's condemnation of the conspiracy theories of 9/11 truthers themselves only goes so far. He implies that believes in some of them himself. He writes:
It's entirely plausible to assume that the FBI, U.S. military intelligence, and the CIA -- as has just been rather convincingly claimed again in the latter instance -- had penetrated the al-Qaida team planning the 9/11 attacks; intelligence reports piled up in various Washington bureaucracies pointing to the impending onslaught and even the manner in which it might be carried out. The history of intelligence operations is profuse with example of successful intelligence collection, but also fatal slowness to act on the intelligence, along with eagerness not to compromise the security and future usefulness of the informant, who has to prove his own credentials by even pressing for prompt action by the plotters. Sometime an undercover agent will actually propose an action, either to deflect efforts away from some graver threat, or to put the plotters in a position where they can be caught red-handed.
Again, he offers no evidence for this 9/11 conspiracy theory. He merely deems it "plausible" because, he says, some unspecified similar things have happened in the past.
When Cockburn set out to write about "the end of evidence", did he intend to argue against that loss or to provide examples of it?
Cockburn goes on in the column to helpfully debunk the idiotic truther claims that the twin towers couldn't have been destroyed by the plane crashes alone; that they must have been brought down by explosives planted within them. Considering how obviously flawed those truther arguments are, I have found them useful in the sense that any alleged expert who makes such foolish claims automatically impeaches his own expertise. An alleged expert who fails to understand how the twin towers came down is by definition incompetent to offer an opinion on the subject.
Here, as a public service, is what Cockburn's expert has to say:
"The towers were basically tubes, essentially hollow. Tubes can be very efficient structures, strong and economical. The Trade Center tubes effectively resisted vertical loads, wind loads and vibrations and could probably have done very well against earthquakes. However, the relatively thin skin of the hollow tube must be braced at intervals to prevent local buckling of the skin under various possible loads, otherwise the tube itself can go out of shape and lose its strength.
"For their interior bracing, the thin-walled tubes of the Trade Center towers depended primarily on the interior floors being tied to the outer wall shells. These floor beam structures were basically open web joists, adequate for the floor loads normally to be expected. These joist ends rested on steel angle clips attached to the outer walls.
"As the floors at the level of airplane impact caught fire, the open web joists, which could not be expected to resist such fires, softened under the heat, sagged and pulled away from their attachments to the walls. Their weight, and the loads they were carrying, caused them to drop onto the next lower floor, which was then carrying double loads also becoming exposed to the heat. Then that floor collapsed, and so it went. But as the floors dropped, they no longer served as bracing for the thin-walled main tubes. This loss of bracing permitted the walls to buckle outward in successive sections and thus the house of cards effect."
High-grade steel can bend disastrously under extreme heat. The types of steel used in the WTC Towers (plain carbon, and vanadium) lose half their strength when heated to about 570 C , and even more as temperatures rise, as they did in WTC 1 and 2, to 1100 C.
I am sure that the editors of Salon published Cockburn's column for its debunking of the 9/11 truth movement and not for its promotion of Pearl Harbor conspiracy theories. The absurdity of old conspiracy theories made in passing just doesn't have the impact of the madness of the truthers. It's possible Salon's editors didn't read the column closely and just missed Cockburn's Pearl Harbor comment. Regardless, they owe their readers an apology and an explanation. At the very least, if they want to publish columns decrying the death of evidence, they owe their readers the evidence.

"Intifada Palestine" website: Norway massacre done by Jewish-Masonic conspiracy.
The "Intifada Palestine" website and Facebook group are promoting a conspiracy theory blaming a conspiracy of Jews and Freemasons for the massacre of Norwegian school children committed by Anders Breivik on July 22. It's sick stuff. Intifada Palestine claims that this worldwide conspiracy planned and executed the massacre, and charges that the Norwegian government is secretly infiltrated by Freemasons and Mossad agents. They claim that this conspiracy involves a massive cover-up by the news media -- or as they call it, "the Zionist-controlled media". Anders Behring Breivik’s initiated friends in the Oslo police department and Norwegian security services; fellow Freemasons, sworn to secrecy through the blood oath of the order and who work for the betterment of any Masonic brother in need. The Vikings are a proxy of the Zionist entity’s Mossad, and have served as the European branch of Israel’s Dragon Policy operation since 2001. Weapons, funds to build camps and set up cells and high-level paramilitary training have been provided to The Vikings by a Mossad team stationed in Oslo. Mossad’s movement between camps and headquarters was/is protected by its Freemasonic allies in Norway’s terribly corrupted security establishment. The Vikings are part of a 10-year operational ‘standby’ plan to balkanize any European nation that is not prepared to adhere to the Zionist regime’s ‘Greater Israel’ vision. Several cells have been set up throughout Europe with ‘sleeping orders,’ awaiting activation. Norway was the first target and the operations base.
This intelligence is confirmed by Zionist asset and Breivik object of admiration Daniel Pipes, who just so happens to foresee Europe entering a state of “protracted civil conflict” in a matter of a few short years. Just two days after the Norway attacks, Zionist Defense Minister and war criminal Ehud Barak stated that “Israel must exert all efforts” in stopping UN recognition of a Palestinian state (bantustan) in September. He specifically mentioned Europe as Zionism’s main target in this mobilization.
The explanation of the conspiracy theory continues by somehow bringing Wikileaks and the Rothschilds into the picture:
In the modern era, no geopolitical analysis would be complete without the mentioning of the world’s ‘finest whistleblower,’ Wikileaks. Anders Behring Breivik stated that he had been planning his attack since 2009 and by some mystical, odd, magical coincidence, Wikileaks released ‘cables’ from 2009 on the exact same day of Breivik’s rampage that Norway was “in over its head” in regards to a terror attack, going further to state that Norway “felt immune to terrorism” and was “unprepared.” When it is taken into consideration that Julian Assange is an agent of the Rothschild family, the Zionist entity’s godfathers, and the Wikileaks organization is a Mossad-CIA ‘limited hangout operation’ designed to control dissent in a re-branding of COINTELPRO and attack ‘hostile’ nations with psychological warfare, it can easily be deducted that the release of these ‘cables’ was the usurping Israeli regime’s way of gloating as Norway coped with the tragedy.
It is now known that Anders Behring Breivik traveled to the Zionist entity several times before the July 22nd operation. What isn’t known is what Breivik’s reasons were for traveling to Zionist-governed historic Palestine, but based on the evidence presented in the previous section, it is of the strongest likelihood that Breivik made pilgrimage to the occupied holy land to receive additional orders from his Tel Aviv paymasters. The target of Breivik and his accomplice in Oslo was Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Breivik has now admitted that his target on Utøya Island was former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, commonly referred to as the ‘the mother of the nation.’ These were assassination attempts and they overtly wreak of Mossad involvement. But why didn’t Kidon, Mossad’s high-level assassination unit, pull the trigger directly? And furthermore, why didn’t Israel use its typical ‘Islamic fundamentalist’ patsies for the operation?
The answers are relatively simple. July 22nd, 2011 was a Friday. An ‘Islamic fundamentalist’ carrying out a terror attack when he should be in the masjid (mosque) performing Salat al-Jumu’ah (mandatory Friday prayers) doesn’t make much sense, now does it? Every operation that the Zionist entity carries out has a psychological warfare aspect to it. By unveiling its European Dragon Policy operatives, Tel Aviv was sending an intimidating message to the governments of Europe: ‘fall in line or you will be struck; any place, any time, by people that look just like you.’ Friday also represents the start of the Jewish Sabbath, taking Mossad’s Kidon unit (reportedly comprised entirely of religious Jews) out of the picture. Enter Breivik, who played his role as ‘shabbos goy’ to the letter. ‘Shabbos goy,’ is a Yiddish phrase that simply means a gentile who provides assistance to Jews during the Sabbath. But in the modern sense, in the fields of intelligence and war, a ‘shabbos goy’ is a gentile who would literally (and willingly) kill for the Zionist state.
The column concludes by claiming that Israel committed this attack, the Mumbai terrorist attack, and 9/11, motivated both by a belief in numerology, and by an adherence to what it describes as the "twisted" religion of Judaism:
While many will dismiss the idea of a Zionist-Masonic alliance as laughable, delusional or the all-time favorite, “conspiracy theory,” there is an undeniable link that exists between the Talmudic enclave built upon ethnically cleansed Palestinian land and the satanic secret society that has had a prominent, clandestine hand in world events for centuries. One needs to look no further than the buildings and lodges donated to the Zionist entity by its founders, the international banking giants and originators, the Rothschild family, who are rumored to “own” 80% of historic Palestine. Literally, Freemasonry is written all over each massive structure. The reason why this connection needs to be discussed is painfully significant. The Zionist regime is exceedingly precise in carrying out its intelligence operations of death and destruction on anniversaries, on Jewish holidays or on days with deeper, “spiritual” meaning in the Kabbalist-Masonic context of “sacred geometry.”

Leading 9/11 researcher, journalist, writer, professor and scholar Kevin Barrett described the September 11th attacks as “a mass human sacrifice designed to ritually inaugurate a New World Order of global government by Satanists and atheists.” It is also 11 years to the day that George Bush’s father called for such a ‘New World Order.’ Next, one of Mossad’s false flag attacks in Mumbai and the infamous train bombings in Madrid; the events of both attacks were overwrought with Kabbalistic numerology, the destructive number 11 in particular. Also, the criminal, genocidal, Zionist invasions of Iraq and Libya; both nations were invaded on the twisted Jewish revenge holiday of Purim, in which the blood of the Amalekites (in this case, Arabs) must be spilled for the ‘Jewish people’ to rejoice in victory.
And now: the 7/22 (‘oddly enough,’ the sum of the numbers is Kabbalistic 11) atrocities in Norway; 65 years to the day that terrorism in the Middle East was born, when the deranged and mass murdering Irgun militia, led by future Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, bombed the King David Hotel in al-Quds, killing at least 92 people. This sanguinary operation paved the way for the Zionist entity to be established. It is an event that is celebrated to this day by Zionists, including the butcher of Gaza himself and current leader of the occupation, Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Intifada Palestine column cites a Press TV interview ("Zionist trail in Norway terror attacks") with someone called Peter Eyre as its primary source for the "facts" underlying this conspiracy theory. (Read here.) Press TV identifies Eyre as a "consultant" with an expertise in the Middle East, although I can find little trace of him other than his blog (read here). The Press TV article, in spite of its headline, offers no evidence other than Peter Eyre's say-so of Breivik's connection to Israel. Eyre, in turn, offers no evidence for his claim, and admits that he doesn't really have any, repeatedly saying that he believes that Israel was involved, but can't say for certain.
For the masonic connection, Intifada Palestine cites a post by Gordon Duff at his blog Veterans Today as its source. Duff's promotion of bizarre conspiracy theories and Holocaust denial have led other conspiracy theory advocates to accuse him of being an agent provocateur tasked with discrediting the movement. Apparently Intifada Palestine hasn't gotten that memo, however. They rely on a convoluted column by Duff called "Secret Terror, the Price of Ignorance" for the charge that the Norwegian government has been infiltrated by a cabal of Freemasons. (Read here.) Duff helpfully includes in his column a video of a 1961 speech by John F. Kennedy against both communism and the United States excessively resorting to the use of official secrecy in opposing communism. Duff absurdly claims that Kennedy was warning not against potential excesses in fighting the Cold War, but about a worldwide conspiracy of Freemasons and Jews. The YouTube posting of this video labels it "J.F. Kennedy talks about secret devils, (Masons & Illuminati)". Watch it for yourself, and see whether you see it as a evidence that an occult conspiracy controls the world.
I feel sad for the poor, benighted individuals who, based either on support for the Palestinians or on fear of what they cannot understand, accept the drivel published by these people as true. That Intifada Palestine would promote this to its thousands of followers speaks for itself.

Alan Hart predicts Palestinian "final solution", supports Assad and Nasrallah
Alan Hart has told interviewers that, on 9/11, Mossad agents using cell phone equipped with transponders steered the planes that hit the World Trade Center. He went on to explain that this did not bring down the towers. He says that the building were brought down by what he calls "controlled ground explosions". (Read here.) He went on to state in that interview that Israel had stolen several nuclear weapons from U.S. military bases which it intends to explode in U.S. cities. When asked for his evidence, he told his interviewer (the former University of Wisconsin instructor and current podcaster and Holocaust denier Kevin Barrett) that he had it, but that he couldn't provide it at that time because it was on a computer he did not have with him. Although Hart had a career as a journalist (he actually worked as a correspondent for ITN and BBC about 30 - 40 years ago), he somehow has failed to perceive that he has uncovered the greatest news story of the past century -- maybe of all time -- and follow up on his revelations with the the evidence which will put him in the pantheon of the greatest journalists ever. Either that, or he made up all the whole thing and he's a completely unreliable nutter posing as a reliable source. I choose the latter.
On another subject, Alan Hart recently used the mass-murder committed by the Norwegian Anders Breivik as an occasion to blame those crimes on Israel. (Read here.) In that column, Hart writes:

I have no doubt that Alan Hart truly believes the apocalyptic scenarios he imagines to be true, and that he tells the truth when he says that they frighten him. That he and the media outlets which enable him choose to frighten others with these mad fantasies and give them an air of reality for a credulous, biased or delusional audience does a disservice to everyone, regardless of political opinion.

That column describes a recent conference which Hart headlined during which Jews were blamed for causing the Holocaust. Gilad Atzmon, who made that charge, found it amusing that Jews wouldn't understand why they were to blame. Also for your consideration, from a website promoting Gilad Atzmon, is Alan Hart's amusing description of himself as a "covert diplomat in the Middle East". (Read here.) He doesn't indicate on which government's behalf he served in this capacity. Clearly, Alan Hart has a very tenuous grasp of the difference between reality and his fevered imagination.
Not everyone agrees with me on this, of course. RT, the Russia Today network, provide him with a forum, as does the Iranian regime's English language propaganda outlet Press TV. On Press TV, Hart hosts an interview show where his guests have included Norman Finkelstein, John Pilger and Ilan Pappe. In the U.S., Hart has been a guest on Alex Jones meshuga conspiracy theory radio program, Kevin Barrett's "9/11 truth" podcast, and the public access TV show hosted by Hesham Tillawi. Hart also writes a regular column for the the atrocious hate website dishonestly called Veterans Today. (If calling a website devoted to hate speech, Holocaust denial and conspiracy theories by that name isn't an insult to veterans, nothing is.)
With all that, Hart has recently come out with the following dire prediction in a blog post he wrote in support of a column by David Hearst which appeared in the Guardian last week:
"Zionism’s in-Israel leaders [may] create a pretext (possibly involving Mossad agents dressed as Arabs planting bombs) to go for a final round of ethnic cleansing – to drive the Palestinians off the West Bank and into Jordan or wherever.
"It's because I believe a Zionist Final Solution . . . is a real possibility in a foreseeable future that I think a way should be found for the major powers, led by America, to put Israel on public notice that if it did resort to a final round of ethnic cleansing, it would be universally condemned as a criminal state and subjected to sanctions of every kind, universally applied."

To restate his comment, Alan Hart writes that Israel may be planning to carry out terrorist attacks on itself in order to blame them on Palestinians. He alleges that this will be the pretext for Israel to expel Palestinians from the West Bank. To prevent this, he proposes that the international community warn Israel that such behavior would be sanctioned.
And this is nothing new for Hart. Back in July 2010, he told a Russia Today interviewer (read here):
“I think Israel’s leaders will invent a pretext to drive the Palestinians off the West Bank, into Jordan, Syria or wherever. And the blood will flow. The West Bank will be soaked with blood, it will be mostly Palestinian blood… That wouldn’t be the end of the story. It would so inflame Arab and Muslim masses that you will be opening the Pandora’s Box of a much wider conflict.”
If those absurd predictions and recommendations don't impeach Alan Hart as a source, what will? How about the fact that, as recently as April 28, 2011, he was still defending Bashar Assad? At that time, he told a Russia Today interviewer (read here) that:
I don’t think young Assad is in control. I think Assad is probably more or less a prisoner of his generals and the security services. He gave the world the impression when he came to power 10-11 years ago that he was going to be, not like his father who was a tyrant, he was going to a reformer. I suspect that probably was the genuine “son of the father”, but I think right now he is probably, as I would say, a prisoner. And they are just going to shoot, and shoot, and shoot. And rather like the Israelis don’t give a damn about what the world thinks, I don’t think Syria’s security forces will either.
Hart went to say in that interview that he believes Hasan Nasrallah to be the Middle East's greatest statesman, a champion of democracy, and that Hafez Assad was a puppet of Israel:
I also think Hezbollah has vested interest in what is going on here. I mean, I am not one of those who write Hezbollah off as a terrorist group. I think Sheik Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s leader, is head and shoulders above all other Arab leaders in the region. I think he is a real leader, and I think Hezbollah has evolved into a truly democratic party. So, I don’t think it would want any boats rocked either.
But if Syria were to fall, I think you are really asking me what would happen. Well, I don’t think Syria will fall to the extent that I can’t see a scenario in which Syrian security doesn’t remain in control. And what the world doesn’t know about Syria is that for many years under this present president’s father, it actually cooperated with Israel. It was actually at times an Israeli puppet. In the 1967 war – I tell the full story of this in my book – there was a secret understanding between Syria and Israel before the ‘67 war. So Syria plays its cards very, very well to survive in this region. It’s much too early to write off the regime there in my view.
In a more recent interview with RT, Hart impugns the motives for Western opposition to Bashar Assad's brutality, saying (read here):
The interest of the West is in getting rid of the minority ruling group of the country. I would assume that British and US policies want Syria detached from Iran.

Who does Medea Benjamin blame for Gaza flotilla delays?
As most readers of this blog will already know, boats participating in the current Gaza flotilla have been held in port in Greece for the past several days by Greek maritime authorities. On one of those boats tweets Medea Benjamin, head of flotilla cosponsor organization Code Pink. She has issued a statement via twitter which seems to conflate the flotilla issue with Greece's financial meltdown, blaming "western banks" and stating that Greece has "sold out to Israel".
Readers of her tweet may legitimately ask what purpose it serves, other than to capitalize on anti-bank anger and link it somehow to anti-Israel anger. By doing this, Benjamin feeds into the unfortunate tendencies toward conspiracy mongering and anti-Semitism associated with both issues.
Readers of her tweet may legitimately ask what purpose it serves, other than to capitalize on anti-bank anger and link it somehow to anti-Israel anger. By doing this, Benjamin feeds into the unfortunate tendencies toward conspiracy mongering and anti-Semitism associated with both issues.
Benjamin has offered no evidence of Greece "selling out to Israel" other than a link to a Haaretz article quoting an anonymous source as saying that Netanyahu has lobbied the E.U. on Greece's behalf. (Everyone knows just how much influence Benjamin Netanyahu has within the E.U.) For her purposes, making the charge is enough. For a true-believer in the flotilla cause, any opposition to the flotilla must derive from corrupt sources. Those who accept such allegations of corruption and conspiracy without real evidence do so for the feeling derived from believing in them. Discussions of whether or not they're true divert them from that pleasure.
What does it mean for Benjamin to group "western banks" into a single entity? Based on the disgraceful role played by certain banks in creating Greece's problems (Goldman Sachs in particular), does she reject any solution involving banks as a "sell-out"? What would a solution not including banks look like? I don't ask those questions in the expectation that Benjamin will answer them, because she can't. I do so to point out that Benjamin's comment exists within the zone of political expression where thought has stopped, and that, within precisely that area of non-thought, conspiracy theories and bigotry take root. That's something we should guard against regardless of our opinions about what's best for Greece's financial woes or for the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. We shouldn't stand by as reckless advocates pour fuel on the already smoldering fires of resentment associated with both of these issues in the hopes of starting a single, larger fire.
UPDATE: The "sell out" meme has been picked up by Dror Feiler, one of the flotilla's main organizers. He tells the Guardian (read here) that
"Greece sold its body to the banks and its soul to Israel and the United States. I don't think – I know – that Israel and US pressure caused this."
By saying that he "knows", not just believes, this conspiracy to be true, Feiler means to say that he has absolutely no evidence, but very strongly believes it to be true. His use of the phrase "I don't think -- I know" to mean the opposite of its plain language meaning falls precisely under Harry Frankfurt's definition of Bullshit. It is more dangerous than an ordinary lie in that it is deployed precisely to blur the distinction between truth and falsehood and make the difference less important. Those who hear in a receptive way such claims as those made by Benjamin and Feiler don't want to pursue the facts which would either confirm or refute them, they just want to consume assertions which confirm their prejudices. By playing this game, Benjamin and Feiler dishonor their cause and delude their followers.

Jesse Ventura pushes bizarre 9/11 secret weapon claim
Ventura backs theories of Dr. Judy Wood
It's not news that Jesse Ventura is a 9/11 truther. It comes as something of a surprise to me that he is not only a part of that lunatic fringe of people who don't believe the World Trade Center towers were destroyed by the planes that crashed into them. He now says that he believes that the towers were also not destroyed by nano-thermite, controlled demolition, nuclear weapons, or any of the other "mainstream" truther theories. He says that he believes that the towers were destroyed by a secret weapon. In an interview on the Alex Jones radio show, Ventura made this extraordinarily odd claim.

Ventura: There was something else in play there Alex. There was something in play that day, that -- I don't even know what it is, but I can equate it to being like a microwave. You know how you can take a piece of chicken and put it on a paper plate and stick it in the microwave and the chicken will burn but the paper plate won't?
Jones: Yes.
Ventura: Well, something happened that day equivalent to a microwave. And by capturing bin Laden maybe we could have found out what weapon he really has. Because I just learned there were 1400 cars that day toasted on the streets of Manhattan.
Where does he get this bizarre theory from? He tells Jones that he got it from a book Where Did the Towers Go, by Judy Wood.

Wood starts off that interview by saying that she believes that the fact that others don't share her beliefs is "bizarre". She goes on to say that moon landing never happened, but "you're not supposed to question it". She then reveals her motivation in seeking an odd explanation for 9/11. She says, apparently referring to JFK assassination cosnpiracy theories, that "grassy knoll is the unofficial official story", the one you're "supposed to believe". This she equates with the standard truther theories: controlled demolition, nano-thermite, etc. She believes that the standard conspiracy theories are products of the same disinformation campaign as the official story is. Her fellow truthers are either part of the conspiracy or are its unwitting dupes. That is an extremely paranoid view of an extremely paranoid movement.
Wood goes on in the interview to claim that the falling towers "emitted no sound". Her proof is that she has seen videos where the sound is not audible. Additional proof? She has seen video where the plane crashes into the tower, and people below take a second or two to react. As should be readily obvious, the fact that they react at all indicates that they heard a noise. Moreover, Dr. Wood seems unaware that the speed of light exceeds the speed of sound. Of course it took a second or two for the sound to startle people who weren't looking up. That's when the sound reached ground level. This is the level of scientific evidence Dr. Judy Wood brings to the 9/11 truth party.

Who on earth could believe this stuff? I mean other than Jesse Ventura and Alex Jones? How about the people at the Ron Paul Forums? (Read here.) They say that "Dr. Judy Wood's book is finally here!" and "it's a book of vast importance".
I wish I could say that this is merely the work of harmless cranks, but considering how many credulous souls actually believe this stuff, I really don't think these cranks are all that harmless.

Cindy Sheehan: "I think 9/11 was an inside job"
Within the past 24 hours, Cindy Sheehan has revealed herself to be a "deather", someone who believes the killing of Osama bin Laden to have been faked as part of a government conspiracy aimed at reelecting Barack Obama. (Read here and here.) I wasn't aware that she is also a truther. (See video below.)

Cindy Sheehan: Obama faked bin Laden death to get reelected
Following up on several Facebook postings that she made yesterday alleging that the U.S. government faked Osama bin Laden's death (read here), Cindy Sheehan has written a rambling blog post further detailing her conspiracy theory. (Read here: Cindy Sheehan's Soapbox: I'm not the Deather )
In the post, Sheehan asks why the U.S. would dispose of bin Laden's body at sea, arguing that this indicates concealment of a conspiracy. In fact, the more likely explanation is that the United States simply did not want to create a bin Laden shrine, so instead found a convenient way to dispose of the body within acceptable, if somewhat unusual, Muslim practice.
She also asks (in a somewhat confusing paragraph) whether it was technically possible to conduct conclusive DNA testing so quickly.
The only proof we were offered was Obama telling us that there was a DNA match between the man killed by the Navy SEALS and OBL. I didn’t realize it was possible to get DNA done so quickly, and I can’t imagine where they got a sample to compare with. Did OBL go into the nearest clinic in the past to get his cheek swabbed and then send it to the FBI on Terrorist ID Day? Here’s some more food for thought—one doesn’t have to be dead to have a DNA test done. They don’t kill deadbeat dads to prove paternity, yet.
The logic of that paragraph is a bit shaky, but the real questions behind it -- could DNA testing be done so quickly, and were comparison samples from bin Laden relatives available -- have been answered in the affirmative by those who know. (Read here and here.)
Sheehan then asks about the motivation for the purported conspiracy:
"Why would the president who can pronounce “nuclear” boldly lie to the world (again) about the US’s convenient enemy? Because the distraction of the Royal Wedding is over and Obama’s policies were beginning to reek? Even people who chastised me for being against the humanitarian bombing of civilians were starting to come around.The economy is in the toilet and partially due to the new US misadventure in the oil producing world, we are paying four-dollars plus per gallon for fuel. The ongoing Fukushima disaster is too scary for us to think about so we needed something to be jingoistic over and to buy Chinese made American flags so we could dance in the streets?
Many wagging tongues have exulted over the fact that this “triumph” assures Obama’s reelection in 2012—I guess that means that A) He won’t need to raise the one billion dollars his campaign is seeking, and B) The new re-killing of OBL was his campaign kick-off."
Sheehan goes on to say that the U.S. government didn't fake bin Laden's death during the Bush administration because President Bush's credibility was so low that the public would not accept his administration's word about the death. In conclusion, she writes that widespread criticism of her conspiracy theory is a right-wing attempt to abet the conspiracy to deceive the world:
Is the US war of terror against the Arab world now over? All I do know is that this Empire is the Empire of Death—and to call someone who questions the fables, a “Deather” is just blatant demonization and a reactionary response to fortify the fraud.
That is one explanation. A simpler one is that the public, upon hearing a public figure make an outrageous and completely unsubstantiated accusation, looks for points of comparison to put it into perspective. The uncomfortable truth is that bin Laden death skepticism has a great deal in common with Obama birth skepticism. Both birthers and deathers are skeptical of obvious, easily verifiable, truths, yet are credulous of the existence of the most implausible conspiracies. The sad fact is that, when skepticism gets that selective, it verges on paranoia. It raises concerns that the skeptic has lost touch with the reality of the events about which she has such strong opinions. To observe this is neither demonizing, reactionary nor indicative of being part of a conspiracy.

Colorado Sheriff threatens to arrest federal employees. Claims U.S. gov't intends to give forest resources to China as "collateral on debt".
Last November's election brought a number of Tea Party candidates to office, among them Dennis Spruell, a longtime police officer who was elected Sheriff of Montezuma County, a rural county in the Four Corners area of southwest Colorado ("2,000 square miles of canyons, national forest, mountains and high altitude desert").
Last Saturday evening, Sheriff Spruell gave a live interview to the Political Cesspool, the radio program of the far-right racist organization Council of Conservative Citizens. Spruell's presence on that program, which backs David Duke for president in 2012, is troubling enough. According to the most recent census, 25% of the residents of Spruell's county are American Indian or Hispanic. Those citizens can hardly be reassured that the man they depend on to enforce the law in their county thinks it appropriate to appear on the nation's most popular explicitly racist program -- one that touts "free speech for White Americans", promotes racist organizations like American Renaissance and individuals like David Duke and promotes racist depictions of African-Americans, Jews and Hispanics.
What Spruell had to say on that radio program was more troubling still. Spruell revealed that he believes that federal employees working on roads in the federal forest and park land in his county may be secretly conspiring to give natural resources to China "as collateral for (the national) debt". Although he offered no evidence for this odd belief, he made a very real and very troubling threat to counter this purported conspiracy. He announced that he would arrest any federal employee who attempted to close a road on federal land in his county. He said that he intended to do this out of his deep, abiding love for the constitution.

About 1/3 of Montezuma County is federal forest which is administered by three federal agencies, and many local residents object to a recently announced plan to end public access to some Forest Service land (read here). Spruell is now using that controversy as a springboard for his broader agenda of opposition to federal authority and promotion of conspiracy theories. When asked by a reporter for the local paper what issues they wanted him to deal with, they universally said crime related to local production of crystal meth, which is endemic in the area. (Read here.) Interestingly, not one of them cited countering the threat of Chinese encroachment on U.S. forests as a concern.

Gaddy is a former leader of the anti-immigrant Minutemen vigilante group and a blogger at the Lew Rockwell website. There, you can read his many columns advocating gun ownership, predicting a civil war in which federal agents will soon confiscate guns and place gun owners in concentration camps (read here) , claiming that U.S. gun control laws are taken word for word from those of Nazi Germany (read here), supporting the Confederacy as opposing a "one world government" (read here), and implying that Pearl Harbor, the TWA 800 crash, the Oklahoma City bombing and 9/11 were done by the federal government (read here). He also claims that the Tucson massacre was a "false flag" undertaken by the federal government to justify further restrictions on gun ownership (read here).
(Nice stuff they publish at Lew Rockwell. Say, wasn't he Ron Paul's top advisor for several decades? Just saying...)

Who will soldiers and law enforcement officers side with ... Sheriff Spruell should renounce his bizarre conspiracy theory and apologize to the innocent federal employees he has threatened to arrest. Moreover, he should make clear to the public that they should take no vigilante action against federal employees. Spruell needs to make clear to Park Service, Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management workers that they should not fear to do their jobs. For him to do otherwise would compound his already grossly irresponsible behavior. What Spruell advocated in his radio interview is merely vigilantism masquerading as law enforcement. Like many on the Tea Party right, he is all too anxious for local authorities to use force against the federal government in order to prevent illusory conspiracies. In that respect, for them, the means justifies the ends.

...and the conspiracy mongering continues
I noted yesterday that the conspiracy nuts had already started spinning their complex webs, spreading lies about purported hidden hands behind the Giffords assassination attempt within minutes via Twitter and blog posts. I neglected that endless font of mad conspiracy theories: Lyndon LaRouche, the longtime presidential candidate and political cult leader. LaRouche, who is revered by his followers as a virtual prophet, has an implausible and impenetrably complex answer for every question. Here's LaRouche's authoritative version of the Giffords shooting, via the website of his political action committee:
Lyndon LaRouche said today that the version of the story about the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday presented thus far is not believable. On the one hand, it is clear that the perpetrator who was apprehended is a nutty kid. On the other hand, the targeting of Sarah Palin is a tip off that the story is a fake and that someone is using the kid who carried out the shooting.
There is a widespread effort on the part of the press to attempt to make a hero out of a woman, Rep. Giffords, who had the wrong policy on health care. An attempt is being made to use the case to attack Sarah Palin, who had targeted Giffords and 19 other Congressmen for defeat in the last election because of their vote for Obama's Nazi health bill.
LaRouche said that this is a tip off that something is phony in the story being put forward now by people who support the Obama T-4 policy. Giffords was on the wrong side morally. The kid who shot her and others is clearly a nut, a psychotic. But his action is now being used to attack Sarah Palin, who did nothing wrong in targeting supporters, including Giffords, of the Obama health bill for defeat in the last election.
LaRouche said that anyone who attacks Sarah Palin is implicitly pro-Hitler.

(T)he press build up of the attack on Sarah Palin is a tipoff that something is phony, that the attack is being used to promote something else.
The attack itself is a criminal atrocity. Then you have what the press is doing as an official line. LaRouche said that what the press is doing in attacking Sarah Palin is as bad a crime as the crime itself. It is criminal to try to put blame on people who are anti-genocide. The events in Arizona were not caused by people who attacked a pro-genocide policy. The actions of a nut case are being used to build up a witchhunt against people who correctly oppose the murderous, genocide policy epitomized by the Obama T-4 policy.
In effect there are two crimes. First the crime against the Congresswoman and second the crime against Sarah Palin.
LaRouche said it is a toss up as to which is a worse crime. Somebody is trying to use a crime as an after the fact justification for a pro-genocide line. The attack on Sarah Palin is the fraud. The Congresswoman's support for Obama's health policy was wrong.
Those who know the history of the Third Reich will recognize the T-4 policy as Hitler's program to exterminate those who the regime deemed medically unfit to live. It was the first phase of the Nazi genocide. LaRouche is claiming that the Obama medical program is a similar first phase in an incipient Holocaust and that the Giffords shooting is part of his plan.

Let the conspiracy mongering commence
It doesn't take very long for the conspiracy mongers to start. Soon after any major news event, they rush in, ready to dress the event in whatever off-the-rack paranoia suits their ideology.
Yesterday's horrifying mass-murder in Tucson is a fresh and painful wound in the national psyche. What better time to explain it as the product of a broad conspiracy? According to the shock doctrine, the public is vulnerable after a disaster and more susceptible to extreme messages they would otherwise reject. That theory applies not only to governments, but to the political lunatic fringe as well.

Case in point #1: Mike Rivero of the What Really Happened blog. Both on his blog and on Twitter, he writes that President Obama is behind the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. He bases this lunacy on two facts. First, Mark Penn, the political consultant who led Hilary Clinton's 2008 primary campaign (and infamously botched that effort by misunderstanding California's Democratic primary procedure), stupidly said in an November, 2010 interview with MSNBC's Chris Matthews that the best thing that could happen to President Obama would be another Oklahoma City massacre. Second, police in Arizona are searching for a possible accomplice in the Giffords shooting.
To a paranoid mind, those two facts provide motive and opportunity for a presidential conspiracy to assassinate a member of Congress. Speaking of the shock doctrine, that's what Rivero sees in the shooting, perhaps projecting his own motivation. Rivero sees in this what the truthers see in 9/11, the Clinton-haters saw in Waco and Oklahoma City, the JFK conspiracy people see in their fantasies, and what assorted isolationists and paleo-conservatives see in Pearl Harbor. Any disaster which requires a federal response of any kind is perceived by this type of mind as an inside job by a chief executive seeking to usurp unconstitutional powers.

He's pushing the line that Gifford's assassination attempt was a Manchurian Candidate style mind-control operation connected to some sort of nebulous Jewish conspiracy. He somehow finds intimations of all this in the YouTube ravings of Jared Loughner, the Tucson shooter. Considering that Loughner's writings consist of intellectual disordered imitations of syllogisms ('If A, and B, thus C'), the fact that Duff sees unspecified proof of a Jewish conspiracy in this says more about his paranoid view of the world than it does about anything else.

Gordon Duff is not claiming that he knows the answer to how the Jews are behind the Tucson shooting, he just wants to open an investigation to find out.

There are two other alternative possible explanations that I can see. Firstly that the vid was actually created by his mind control programmers to disguise the real reason for the hit(s). Secondly that Jared is actually a psychopath and was setting up his legal defense (insanity) in advance.
- 2 things….and they are connected….the shooter, had he been brown, bearded might have been killed today…but for some reason……he was not shot. He/his name was protected most all of today… interesting that in that place Arizona…..he was protected arrested and taken away….at a time when police retaliation…with so much carnage in that parking lot…so much death…..Then there is the question about how he came to that end….was he a stooge…was he put up to it….egged on…trained encouraged…? a dead Federal judge, along with 5 other dead victims and Rep gifford…Now that the news about her choosing to be jewish is out (Haaretz and JTA this evening) you have to wonder if this is going to be the justification Congress will use to silence verbal/written criticism of zionists/Israel etc as they have done (somewhat) in Europe. things perceived as being “anti semitic” are ‘crimes’ there. Buh bye free speech…whats left of it, that is…

- Jared is a very common Jewish name… As a matter of fact, strange that nobody at the scene drew a gun and shot the aggressor.Mind control or not, it seems to me that this new tragedy is the expression of a sick society producing weird citizens by truck loads, due to many factors and Hollywood is one the contributors to it.Of course, this sad incident will be used Lieberman-McCain and the likes to tighten the screw on citizens constitutional rights and introduce bills for more restriction of civil liberties.
Duff inexplicably illustrates his disjointed column with a bizarre photo of Sarah Palin which has been altered to depict her with fangs and holding in one hand a piece of raw meat and in the other a gun.
