HOW OLD IS THE GRAND CANYON? PARK SERVICE WON’T SAY — Orders to Cater to Creationists Makes National Park Agnostic on Geology

How old is the Grand Canyon? Bush appointees are preventing National Park Service employees from saying anything that would displease creationist flat-earth-society types. Amazing!

Alan Dershowitz: Is Norman Finkelstein in Tehran?

A neo-Nazi website has published the schedule of speakers at the Iranian Holocaust denial conference. (His name was mysteriously removed from the schedule this morning.) Prominent among the speakers in the schedule was assistant professor Norman Finkelstein of DePaul University. His name appeared along with Professor David Duke of the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management in Ukraine and other assorted nuts, neo-Nazis, Islamo-fascists, and America- and Israel-bashers.
It is unclear whether Finkelstein actually attended the conference, since the identify of many of the attendees has been kept secret, and the media office at DePaul says it doesn't know.

In Search of “Righteous Arabs” -- Robert Satloff

In this very interesting piece, the author explores the little know story of Arabs (mainly North African) who helped Jews escaping the Holocaust. The background story of the anti-Semitic actions of the Nazis and their Vichy collaborators in North Africa is itself little known.

...and Deborah Lipstadt's take:

Author's 'Lost Stories' relates Arabs' noble, neutral and ignoble roles in the Holocaust.

She finds Satloff's book interesting, but thinks his motivation naive. Satloff believes that, if more Arabs knew of this heroic story of Arabs bravely defying Nazis to assist Jews, then the Arab hostility to Jews would be diminished. Sadly, Satloff himself acknowledges a great resistance to accepting this history among the Arabs he's discussed it with. Even the descendants of those who's heroism he writes about have been angered by the project, proclaiming it part of a Zionist propaganda conspiracy. Lipstadt's view would appear to be valid, but I'm still glad to learn about this hidden side of the Holocaust.

Refutation of Human Rights Watch Report on the Lebanon Ambulance Incident

UPDATE to The Red Cross Ambulance Incident:
The Human Rights Watch Report
A Point-by-Point Examination of the Document Titled "The 'Hoax' That Wasn't"On December 19, 2006, the international advocacy organization Human Rights Watch issued a detailed, intensively researched report affirming the reality of the intentional Israeli attack on the ambulances at Qana on July 23. The report (titled "The 'Hoax' That Wasn't") by Human Rights Watch (hereafter HRW) was created specifically to counter the claims made in my original essay titled "The Red Cross Ambulance Incident." This commentary is a response to Human Rights Watch's new allegations.

Deputy in Gibson Case Claims Harassment

The sheriff's deputy who arrested Mel Gibson for drunken driving six months ago says his superiors have harassed him ever since a report detailing the star's anti-Semitic tirade was leaked to a celebrity new Web site.
Deputy James Mee was transferred to another assignment, interrogated for several hours, and investigators seized a computer and phone records during a search of his home, his attorney told the Los Angeles Times for its Thursday editions.
