Gabrielle Giffords, shot point blank in assassination attempt, was on Sarah Palin's "target" map

Boing Boing reports that Giffords' opponent in the last election encouraged people to shoot automatic weapons to voice opposition to Giffords:

Meanwhile, you can read these disgusting, heartless comments about the assassination from Breitbart's website.  The DailyKos post they think indicates a death threat is a silly post by a Kos blogger writing that Giffords was "dead to him", not in fact a death threat by any stretch.

Not one of her supporters had a carry and conceal permit? Oh wait, Democrat.

Now that it seems that the act was carried out by a left-wing Schizophrenic , don't you think that you should wait until at least after Shabbat before making wild accusations?

1) The fact that there are insane, violent people living among us is a very good argument for not using violent rhetoric. My post opposes precisely that sort of rhetoric.

2) You argue both that the shooter wasn't motivated by right-wing politics because he was insane (you say schizophrenic), and that he was a left-winger. The internal contradictions of that argument are very clear.

3) Your reference to Shabbat is puzzling. If you're so interested in preserving the sanctity of the Sabbath day, why are you commenting as you are?

1. Because if he were Schizophrenic , but beholden to right wing ideology you would still try to make political points out of it. Now that we know he had a history of being a leftist- you'll still try to blame the Tea Party.
2. If you understood Shabbat, you would know that I posted long after sundown.#

1) I don't blame the tea party. I blame violent, excessive, reductionist, simple-minded political rhetoric. I've had enough of it. This is the straw that broke the camel's back.

2) Really? Shabbat ends at sundown? I had no idea! Seriously, friend, do you think that I didn't know that or that I didn't know what time it was wherever you are, whenever you commented. So why is my level of observance so important to you anyway?

3) You argued both that the shooter couldn't be politically motivated because of his insanity, and that he was a leftist. If you can't see the contradiction in that, how can I explain?

Only last week the media was used to advocate the execution of Michael Vick for killing dogs. Last April Republican Congressman Paul Broun used the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing: "Fellow patriots, we have a lot of domestic enemies of the constitution, and they're right down the Mall, in the Congress of the United States – and right down Independence Avenue in the White House that belongs to us. It's not about my ability to hunt, which I love to do. It's not about the ability for me to protect my family and property against criminals, which we have the right to do. But it's all about us protecting ourselves from a tyrannical government." The year before, this same Broun singled out then-Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, as one such "domestic enemy of the constitution". He was re-elected last November with 67% of the vote. As a teacher of 20th century history here about 7 miles from Dachau in Germany, I know all about how self-serving demagogues like Palin will sacrifice people's lives for their own ends and use God and patriotism to justify it.
