from the JTA:
Vandals defaced a historic former synagogue in Slovenia with anti-Semitic and pro-Palestinian slogans.
The Slovenian Press Agency said the incident in Maribor occurred Sunday. It showed pictures of the building, which now serves as a cultural center, bearing the scrawls "Juden Raus," or "Jews Out," and "Gaza."
The synagogue dates from the Middle Ages and is one of the oldest known synagogue buildings in Europe. It was turned into a church after the Jews were expelled from Slovenia at the end of the 15th century.
Long empty, the synagogue was restored and reopened as a cultural center in 2001. Few if any Jews live in Maribor today.
