President Richard Nixon considered Ted Kennedy such a threat that he tried to catch Kennedy cheating on his wife, even ordering aides to recruit Secret Service agents to spill secrets on the senator's behavior.
''Do you have anybody in the Secret Service that you can get to?'' Nixon asked his aide John Ehrlichman in a stark series of Oval Office conversations about Kennedy before the 1972 election. ''Yeah, yeah,'' Ehrlichman replied.
''Plant one,'' Nixon said. ''Plant two guys on him. This could be very useful.''
Nixon made clear that the Secret Service protection afforded Kennedy before the 1972 election would be rescinded after. Then, said the president, ''If he gets shot, it's too damn bad.'' His aides disdainfully referred to Kennedy supporters as ''super swinger jet set types.''

Madonna booed in Bucharest for defending Roma rights
Madonna's statement, which was relatively mild and noncontroversial, received widespread jeers and boos. She said:
"It has been brought to my attention ... that there is a lot of discrimination against Romanies and Gypsies in general in Eastern Europe. It made me feel very sad. We don't believe in discrimination ... we believe in freedom and equal rights for everyone."

German Newspaper Gives Auschwitz Blueprints to Israel
from SPIEGEL ONLINE: Documenting the Holocaust: German Newspaper Gives Auschwitz Blueprints to Israelis:
Germany's largest newspaper, the tabloid Bild, presented Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with architectural plans for the Auschwitz concentration camp during his visit to Berlin on Thursday. The newspaper's editor, Kai Diekmann, presented the Israeli leader with the blueprints, which the company purchased from an unidentified seller earlier this year.
In his acceptance speech, Netanyahu thanked Diekmann for "a gift of truth," saying he hoped the architectural plans would challenge the beliefs of Holocaust-deniers. "There are people who claim that the Holocaust never happened. Let them come to Jerusalem and look at these plans, the plans for a death factory" he said.
Diekmann further emphasised the significance of the blueprints, saying "These plans serve an important function. They remind us of a crime, which grows more and more inconceivable over time. It is of the utmost importance that we continue to remember," he added.
The 29 sketches, dating as far back as 1941, were discovered in a Berlin apartment in November 2008. The plans include blueprints for the original Auschwitz camp as well as plans to expand the Nazi death camp by constructing a crematorium, a gas chamber and an additional building to store the corpses of murdered Jews at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
The plans will be put on display starting Jan. 27, 2010 at the Yad Vesham Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, where they will be made available to researchers.
The memorial's chairman, Avner Shalev, told Bild, "These documents show what man can do to his fellow man -- they show the evil that can fester in human beings." He called the floor plans "an extremely important symbol for Israel."
"The sketches and building plans of Auschwitz are the only original documents of their kind found in Germany," a spokesperson for Bild publisher Axel Springer told the news agency AFP. "The federal archive, which has confirmed them as genuine, called it an important discovery."

Lutherans Reject Anti-Israel Measures
The Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) approved, by a vote of 690-125, a balanced and fair-minded resolution about the Arab-Israeli conflict at its recent meeting in Minneapolis, Minn.
The resolution, which was approved on Aug. 22, calls on the denomination to learn about the perspectives of both Israelis and Palestinians and to express “balanced … care” for “all parties” affected by the Arab-Israeli conflict.
The full text of the resolution approved by ELCA’s 2005 Churchwide Assembly can be found here under the heading “Category B4: Strategy for Engagement in Israel and Palestine.”
The Churchwide Assembly, which met on Aug. 17-23, 2009, passed this resolution after receiving a total of seven memorials (or resolutions) approved by local ELCA synods during the spring and early summer of 2009.
Five of the seven resolutions submitted by the local synods to the Churchwide Assembly expressed a desire for a fair-minded approach to the Arab-Israeli conflict that took into account the concerns of both Israelis and Palestinians. Two others offered one-sided condemnations of Israeli policy and said nothing about the failings of Palestinian leaders. The resolution approved by the Churchwide Assembly was clearly based on the language offered in the five memorials calling for a balanced approach to the conflict.
Tellingly, four of the five resolutions that called for a balanced approached to peacemaking in the Middle East also re-affirmed a previously expressed expectation that the denomination would provide “clear and reliable information” to its members about the Arab-Israeli conflict. These reaffirmations highlight ongoing concerns about the distorted and inaccurate information about the conflict put forth by prominent clergy within the denomination and in books published by Augsburg Fortress Press, the denomination’s publishing house.
A Setback for anti-Israel Activists
The resolution passed by the Churchwide Assembly represented a loss for activists who had hoped to invoke the church’s peacemaking strategy into an official justification for the harsh anti-Israel message already offered by some leaders, staffers and activists within the denomination.
Hopes that an anti-Israel narrative would receive official sanction from ELCA’s legislative body were evident in memorials approved by two local synods in the months prior to the denomination’s Churchwide Assembly.
In particular, the Eastern Washington-Idaho Synod condemned Israel for an “apartheid-like occupation” of the West Bank and described the Gaza Strip as “one large ghetto, an open air prison,” and falsely asserted that Israel controlled all exits and entrances into this territory. (In fact, Egypt also controls an entrance into the Gaza Strip, but the resolution made no mention of this fact.)
Similar language was present in a memorial submitted by the Metropolitan Washington, D.C., Synod which described the Gaza Strip as being under “a nearly total blockade of all good and commodities for almost two years.” Predictably, neither of the two anti-Israel resolutions provided any explanation or context as to why Israel restricted the flow of goods into the Gaza Strip. They made no mention of Hamas violent takeover of the Gaza Strip in 2007, the thousands of rocket attacks into Israel from this territory or Hamas’ use of human shields during the recent fighting.
Opposition from Middle East Ready Bench
Apparently, calls for a balanced approach to peacemaking represented a threat to people within the denomination who insting on casting Israeli policies as the primary cause of the Arab-Israeli conflict and who were intent on using ELCA’s credibility as a religious organization to broadcast this narrative.
On April 28, the bishops who serve on the denomination’s “Middle East Ready Bench” – a group of supposed experts on the Arab-Israeli conflict – issued a letter condemning the resolution approved by the Southwestern Texas Synod (described above).
...and...
The Ready Bench’s hyperbole demonstrates just how sensitive its members were to seeing the narrative offered by their denomination about the Arab-Israeli conflict subject to scrutiny.
This sensitivity was evident a few months later when New England Bishop Margaret Payne, a member of the Ready Bench, leveled (and refused to retract) false accusations at Israel during a radio interview in May 2009. In her response to a CAMERA letter about her errors, Bishop Payne stated that she would not offer a retraction but instead would look for every opportunity she could find “to advocate for the end of Israeli occupation.” Apparently for Bishop Payne, factual errors and omissions that serve to portray Israel in an unfair light are tolerable because they were offered in the pursuit of a cause she supports.
A similar indifference to the facts has been evident in the material related to the Arab-Israeli conflict produced by ELCA, which may explain why four local synods found it necessary to restate an obvious expectation that the denomination would provide “clear and reliable information” about the Arab-Israeli conflict to its members.
In 2004, for example, ELCA’s publishing house, Augsburg Fortress Press, published Bethlehem Beseiged by Mitri Raheb, a pastor of a Lutheran church in Bethlehem, which provides the following context for Operation Defensive Shield which began on April 2, 2002:There was no reason to invade “our little town” with hundreds of military tanks and armored vehicles, accompanied by Apache helicopters. The excuse Israel used for invading Bethlehem was a suicide bombing that took place on March 29 in Jerusalem by a young Palestinian from Deheishe refugee camp near Bethlehem. The blast killed Ayat al-Akhras and two Israeli people and injured two dozen more. The decision to invade, however, was made weeks before. Before the suicide bombing had taken place, Israeli Prime Minister Sharon had already launched his military offensive, called “Operation Defensive Shield," and Israeli forces were already rolling into Ramallah and had besieged Palestinian President Yasir Arafat in his headquarters. Three days later, they were in Bethlehem and in front of our house. (Pages 3-4)
Raheb’s chronology leaves out some important events, most notably the suicide bombing that killed 30 Israelis and injured 140 more during a Passover Celebration at the Park Hotel in Netanya just five days before Israel sent its troops into Bethlehem.
Raheb also fails to report that during March and the first two days of April 2002, more than 80 Israelis (most of them civilians) were killed by Palestinian suicide attacks and that more than 35 civilians were killed by gunfire.

The Terror Finance Blog: The Serial Libel Tourist is Dead; But Libel Tourism is Alive and Well
"Saudi billionaire Khalid bin Mahfouz died in Jeddah last Saturday. The 60-year-old former owner of the Saudi National Commercial Bank and banker for the Royal family also owned a charity, the Muwafaq (blessed relief) Foundation that funded al-Qaeda and Hamas, to name but a few. He should be remembered not only because of his involvement with the shady Bank for Commerce and Credit International (BCCI) aka “banks for crooks and criminals” and the illegal purchase of the First American Bank in Washington, DC, but mostly because inadvertently he led Americans to better protect their free speech rights.
"Using British libel laws that allow foreigners to sue other foreigners in British courts, a practice known as libel tourism, Mahfouz became a serial suer. He, sometimes together with his sons, sued more than 40 writers and publishers - mostly Americans - because he did not like their criticism. Singlehandedly, on behalf of his royal masters Mahfouz made libel tourism a multimillion-dollar industry for the British Bar, and London the “Libel Capital” of the world.
"Many will miss him. In Riyadh, he will be missed by the ruling members of the royal family who once used his National Commercial Bank as their own piggy bank, and often used him and his family members as fronts for their business and to fund their favorite organizations and terrorist groups. Likewise, those shady characters who run the Saudi-funded Muslim World League, the International Islamic Relief Agency, and the Rabita Trust of Pakistan will miss him.
"Georgetown alum (1968) Prince Turki bin Faisal, former Saudi ambassador to the U.K. and the U.S. and director of Saudi Arabia’s General Intelligence Department from 1977 until ten days before 9/11, and overseer of Saudi financial aid to the jihad in Afghanistan, will have lost an old friend.
"Bin Mahfouz will certainly be missed by a circle of notorious Saudi plutocrats who make an appearance in the annual Forbes list of the world's wealthiest citizens, many as defendants in the lawsuits filed by the victims of the 9/11 attacks. There are the Rajis, the Bin Ladens, Al Amoudi, and such other disreputable individuals as designated terrorist Yassin al Qadi, who ran some of Mahfouz’s businesses and charities – the Muwafaq foundation, that funded al-Qaeda, Hamas and Abu-Sayyaf, to name but a few.
"Al Qaeda, Hamas and Taliban leaders must be grief stricken and worried; will his sons be as generous as he was?
"It is supposed that Mahfouz retained a powerful friend in Washington in James A. Baker, III. Baker, who served as chief of staff to Ronald Reagan and Secretary of State under George H. W. Bush, joined Mahfouz during the roaring seventies when Houston was known as Riyadh-west. They worked together through the heady days and even through the bankruptcy of the second-largest banking organization in Texas, MCorp, in the late nineteen eighties. During the dark days of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), Mahfouz could count on Baker, his man in the White House, to keep him out of jail, no matter how persistent the pressure applied by New York District Attorney Robert Morganthau.
"Obviously, the ruling family of Abu Dhabi will be thinking different thoughts as they recall the $596 million they paid for the privilege of purchasing Mahfouz’s shares in BCCI, as they were then left holding the bag as the bank went under.
"Irish politicians, particularly disgraced former prime minister Charles Haughey, will recall those wondrous days in 1990 when he received $85,000 from Mahfouz so that Mahfouz and nine members of his family would pay $1 million each to obtain an Irish passport -- thus allowing easy commercial entree to the European market.
"Surviving members of the Hunt family of Texas likely have mixed feelings on the death of Mahfouz. Bunker Hunt, scion of one of the world's richest men, had used John Connally, former Governor of Texas and Secretary of the Navy, as his go-between in an effort to entice Mahfouz to join in his play to corner the market in silver bullion. Mahfouz then induced members of the Saudi royal family to join in and they, like Mahfouz, lost a fortune. Nearly driven to suicide, Mahfouz was comforted by Salem Bin Laden, perhaps his closest friend ever.
"On the West Coast, Boeing directors must recall with fondness the 5% they paid Mahfouz, the fixer, to win perhaps their largest contract ever. And the middlemen in Saudi Arabia who also benefited from their involvement with Mahfouz in clinching the deal must be reminiscing.
"As for Osama bin Laden, wherever he is, the al Qaeda leader probably remembers with some affection the days spent with his brother, Salem bin Laden, and Khaled bin Mahfouz at their jointly-held River Oaks estate in Houston, TX. With Mahfouz gone, Osama’s “golden chain” of wealthy Saudi funders has been reduced by a link.
"The international law firm, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, must be sad to have lost this wealthy and most litigious client. Likewise, the English Bar must be rather upset, especially those lawyers who represented Mahfouz.
"Justice David Eady will surely miss Mahfouz. The cases he brought before Eady and Eady’s judgments made both (in)famous for making libel tourism a weapon to silence critics of Saudi Arabia the world over. Even the U.N. human rights commission warned Britain last year that its libel tourism industry has become a tool to suppress the media’s free speech rights and that it endangered national security.
"The serial Libel Tourist Khalid bin Mahfouz is dead. But the jihad against the West he helped fund, together with pernicious British libel tourism practices, are alive and well. Unfortunately, the U.S. government did nothing to stop his activities on either front when he was alive. New York State, Florida and Illinois have already passed anti- libel tourism laws, and another was just passed unanimously by the California legislature.
"A federal law to protect Americans’ free speech is a legacy Mahfouz never intended. Indeed, he was so successful in his efforts to stifle reports about him that amazingly the Western media refrained from reporting his death. However, his libel tourism led to the Free Speech Protection Act 2009, now pending in the Senate. One hopes the bill passes as soon as Congress reconvenes so that investigative journalists and researchers can expose others like him before they do us more harm."
(Also from the blog post: "Rachel Ehrenfeld’s book, Funding Evil, and Millard Burr’s Alms for Jihad were banned in the U.K. after Mahfouz’s libel tourism hobby was rewarded, as many times before, by Justice Eady ruling against them in London’s High Court." )

Coulter accuses Rev. Barry Lynn of being secretly Jewish
Lynn has responded, writing at beliefnet.com (read here):
"You see, I have been attacked by Ann Coulter...again. This one deserves an immediate response.
"She has now claimed that I'm not a real minister -- and not a real Christian -- and has told readers that she would send a free copy of her newest book (sure to become another New York Times bestseller) to the first person who can send her a "copy of my bar mitzvah photos or birth announcement."
"I wonder why my lineage would matter. After all, there are some of Jewish converts to Christianity ... Maybe she is convinced that I am the Antichrist. Many fundamentalists concerned about this matter (including the late Jerry Falwell) believe he is already among us and claim the said figure must be Jewish. Hence, to Ann, I must have been born Jewish."
Lynn, with characteristic good humor, accompanies this with images of his Cameroonian birth certificate (courtesy of Orly Taitz) and a snapshot of him as a baby with his two alien parents.
"Of course, Rev. Barry Lynn, as executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State (and a former director of the Washington, DC office of the ACLU) is a proponent of religious freedom and is unopposed to religious expression... But he is routinely smeared by elements of the Religious Right because he and AU are vigorous and effective opponents of theocratic creep and the hijacking of government resources for unconstitutional religious purposes... Coulter gets very specific and suggests that Lynn is so opposed to public religious expression that he is opposed to Christian religious expression by children -- therefore he must be Jewish."
True to form, Wikipedia is already right on the case. Someone has already added Lynn's invented heritage to the article about him there. No source for this information is given. (Read here.)
"The vast majority of attacks on public displays of Christianity come from Jewish groups like the American Jewish Committee, the ACLU, the ADL, the SPLC, etc. But there is one fairly prominent organization headed by a Christian which does the same sort of thing. It’s Americans United for Separation of Church and State. It’s run by Rev. Barry Lynn. But Ann Coulter’s not buying it. She believes Barry Lynn is secretly a Jew who’s only pretending to be a Christian in order to attack Christianity."
By the way, contrary to Edwards' comment, the ACLU is not a Jewish organization, it's a front for the international communist conspiracy to fluoridate our water.

News according to the Ron Paul Forum
As regular readers here know, I've been looking at the official Ron Paul presidential campaign forum recently. Although set up in connection with the 2008 campaign, the loyal followers of Dr. Paul toil on at the Ron Paul Forums (aka "Liberty Forest"). The Liberty Forest is a funny place -- the news looks a bit different there. For the uninitiated, reading the forum is almost like learning to read a foreign language. For example:
"Zionist British newspaper leading crusade for slavery in UK " reads one headline there. When you click on the link you learn that, according to a poll in the Express, 75% of U.K. residents asked support national service. Not really what the headline might lead you to expect.
Here's a headline reading "Taxpayers Forced To Bailout Zionist Gangsters The Financial Crisis On Wall Street". The post reads as follows:
"The Gang of Zionists Behind 9-11
Ben Shalom Bernanke, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, is the dedicated Zionist Jew behind the $85 billion taxpayer-funded bailout of Maurice Greenberg's criminal enterprise, A.I.G.
Maurice Greenberg, the Zionist criminal behind A.I.G.,
is deeply involved in the false flag terror of 9-11.
The current financial crisis in the United States involves some of the very same Zionist criminals and entities that I pointed out in my recent chapter, "The Architecture of Terror: Mapping the Israeli Network Behind 9-11."
The collapse of their criminal scams on Wall Street could result in more information coming out about the Zionist gangsters behind 9-11.
Such outrageous criminal scams cannot be kept hidden for long.
The government loan of $85 thousand millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars ($85 billion) to keep afloat Maurice Greenberg's criminal operation, American International Group (A.I.G.), brings into the spotlight one of the key individuals in the Zionist criminal network behind 9-11.
http://waronyou.com/forums/index.php?topic=998.msg2769;topicseen#msg2769"
When you follow the link you find that this is a brief outline of an article from the Rense.com conspiracy madhouse. The piece's author is the anti-Semitic propagandist Christopher Bollyn, a writer for Willis Carto's Holocaust denial newspaper American Free Press. (The request for donations which Bollyn included in his original Rense article was cut from the Ron Paul Forum version.) When another forum member named Bruno mocks this forum member's focus on blaming Jews for the financial crisis, he's slapped down. "Bruno, grow up. He said Zionists."
Here's a headline reading "Madoff connected with zionist organisation Hadassah". Interesting slant. It seems to imply that his thefts helped Hadassah, whereas, in fact, Madoff stole $90 million of that charity's money. (Read here.) He was similarly "connected" to a number of other charities.
There's a report (here) which allegedly concerns aid to Gaza, but which begins
"The Jewish Zionist Supremacists are in complete control of the United States government."That report on Gaza never actually mentions Gaza. It's first link goes to Benjamin Freedman's anti-Semitic classic "A Jewish Defector Warns America". The post continues with video of a Bollywood producer talking about Jewish domination of Hollywood and concludes with a list of Federal Reserve Board members who are Jewish. (Not that it matters, but three non-Jews on the list are described as Jewish: James B. Bullard, Thomas M. Hoenig and Richard W. Fisher. I guess fact-checking is not a high priority for these conspiracy buffs.)
Here's a thread concerning the Holocaust and the Vatican. It's distinguished from much of what I found in the Ron Paul Forum in that it includes both anti-Jewish and anti-Catholic hate speech. One Senior Member of the forum writes that the Vatican has been "bought off by Zionist elites". Another Senior Member agrees and protests that the Pope never mourns for non-Jews killed during World War II. A third Senior Member of the forum, rpfan2008, responds with this unusual view of the Holocaust:
"Brits/Jewish bankers incited Hitler to murder the Slavs by teaching him eugenics, Hitler well did that but his biggest mistake was that he included the Jews too in his list of 'inferiors'."
Here's a thread concerning CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin. It seems that these Ron Paul supporters were displeased with Toobin's criticism of Ron Paul's performance in a debate. There are several posts concerning Toobin being a "Zionist". I actually wasn't aware of that. I believe that he's Jewish, but I've never heard him take a position pro or con on Zionism per se. In any event, the Ron Paul Forum says he is and that's why he hates Ron Paul. They suggest a remedy for his views:
"Toobin needs the taste slapped out of his mouth after that hate-filled tirade. I do believe that his comments require a correction, journalistly (sic) speaking."
I don't need to couch what I found at the Ron Paul Forum in obscure or distorted language; I can say it clearly. I found bigotry, conspiracy theories and gratuitous threats of violence.
UPDATE: August 18, 2009 4:30 pm
Check out the video embedded below. It's a report by the Iranian regime's English language propaganda station PressTV. It's posted here at one of the official websites of the Ron Paul campaign, the "Campaign for Liberty" (or "C4L" as it's sometimes called). Start at about 0:40 to hear Ron Paul refer to Gaza as an Israeli concentration camp. He goes on to say that the root cause of the conflict in the Middle East is American support for Israel. He concludes by saying that, while he could say that Israel "ripped off" the Palestinians, he would restrain himself from doing so in order to maintain non-interventionist neutrality.
Maybe this is why his campaign attracts those who are less discrete about their bias.

Made for each other: Glenn Beck and Rand Paul agree on "death panels"
Glenn Beck is becoming the model for the Intentionally Obtuse bloc of America's right wing nutcases: At the very moment when it's becoming virtually unanimous -- even on Fox News -- that all this talk about "death panels" is the biggest load of hooey since black helicopters, he host a segment on his Fox News show with Ron Paul's son, Rand, proclaiming the threat of government-sponsored euthanasia real, real, real.
Of course, it came with a Beckerwockian caveat:
Beck: Tell me about – am I wrong in saying, without any inflammatory speech here, don’t call them “death panels”, just let’s call them what they are – you have a certain amount of money, you have a certain amount of people, you can’t -- they don’t -- you can’t give everything to everybody, isn’t it inevitable that you have to make tough choices?
Paul: Well, you know, the president says he isn’t going to pull the plug on grandma, but what I think he really means is, he’s not going to put the plug in in the first place, because you have to decide, some committee’s going to have to decide, what is the cost-benefit analysis for grandma? Grandma is not just your grandmother, she's a statistic, we have to decide, what is the cost to society to keep her alive? And I think she won't get plugged in. Her ventilator won't be plugged in if she's 92 years old, because society may say we don't have the money to do that.
Sounds like someone has been watching Soylent Green...

Ron Paul Forum: "Netanyahu behind Obama birth rumors"
Yup. That sounds like grist for Ron Paul's mill.
Hey, wait a minute! Aren't these the same people who were advocating the whole birther thing yesterday? Yes, but that was yesterday.
You can read the thread at the Ron Paul Forum here: Netanyahu behind Obama birth Rumors: Report (cached version here)
The thread was started by a Senior Member of the forum (1,948 posts) who calls himself RonPaulFanInGA and whose avatar looks a great deal like Wolf Blitzer. I love the first response the post of the Press TV link got:
"One thing the progressives know how to do very well is to use scare tactics, and point the people to a 'external enemy'."OK. Who are "the progressives" in this story and who is the "external enemy"? Do these conspiracy nuts get some kind of road map or flow chart when they sign up at the Ron Paul Forum? To the uninitiated it seems just a bit, well, incoherent, ineffable, farmisht, farblondzhet, farfolen, mishuga, "unusual", "obscure" and hallucinatory.
Further explanations of the conspiracy lead deeper into a well of confusion so deep even Yiddish words for fuzzy thinking fail me. They claim that the plot had, as its goal, the replacement of the purportedly anti-Israel Obama with the pro-Israel Biden.
A post by a very senior member of the forum (3,834 posts) named "max" has found a way to both embrace this conspiracy and maintain his god-given right to be a
"I am a proud birther, and I want the truth exposed....but not for the same reasons as certain Zionists do...
"Having just learned that Orly Taitz is a Zionist, I now see that the BC issue is a neo-con op....just as Monica Lewinsky scandal was...
"Consider that Taitz is a Zionist, Phil Berg is a Zionist, Alan Keyes is a neo-con, Lou Dobbs is a warmonger, and Joe Farah at World Net Daily is a fanatic Christian Zionist...and that certain elements in MSM are leaking stuff....and the pattern is clear.
"The Zionists want Obama to hit Iran, but Obama and his Trilateralist handlers are focused on Afghanistan and Pakistan and are willing to deal with Iran.
"The game here is to expose the Birth issue just enough that Obama will need a distraction and give in to an Iranian war. THEN...and only then, will the birther issue go away."
Where else could intrepid conspiracy buffs both embrace the truth of a conspiracy theory and claim at the same time that it is disinformation connected to a covert push for war? Thanks Ron Paul for providing such a useful forum!

Some weird paranoia on the Ron Paul Forum concerning yours truly. Two Senior Members of the forum are convinced that a) I'm some sort of Israeli agent and b) I'm secretly a member of their forum. Here's what they're saying:

"I just stumbled across it on a search.
Hi, Mr Holland. What's your sockpuppet moniker? We know you're here."
I didn't know what the "megaphone" referred to, so, of course, I googled it. Wikipedia says it's a tool to facilitate response to negative news stories and blog posts about Israel. Googling megaphone + "ron paul" led me to an article on the Prison Planet website, which I believe is associated with conspiracy theory entrepreneur Alex Jones. The argument that the Prison Planet article puts forward, that an Israeli disinformation campaign is behind negative stories about Ron Paul, is so paranoid and ridiculous that its a perfect encapsulation of the ronpaulian, John Birch Society, mindset. Do these people really believe that the Israeli government, with all their concerns, devotes resources to monitoring the activities of the Ron Paul Forum? I think not.
Sorry to disappoint them, but I am not now, nor have I ever been, a "megaphone" user or associated with any such group. The proof that "revolutionisnow" offers of my participation in the megaphone program is a link to my blog for the month of January 2008. I guess I should feel complemented that he feels that my solo efforts are the result of some computerized Zionist conspiracy (but, on the other hand, look at the source). The belief that a Jew and a supporter of Israel would automatically be part of a conspiracy is so obviously false and offensive that I am not surprised he has it.
With respect to senior Ron Paul Forum member Sandra's comment that I am covertly a member of their forum: that is equally paranoid and absurd. What on earth would lead a sane person to such a conclusion?
Never mind...

A Ron Paul Forum Senior Member called "devil21" has chimed in, saying:
"I guess he expects us to believe that he just happened to come across some obscure thread on a forum with hundreds of thousands of posts that just happened to be blog worthy."
I seem to remember that google was how they found my website, but somehow, when they're discovered, it can only be through the use of some nefarious, Zionist superpower. Of course, "devil21" has a history of brilliant ideas about the evils of Israel. For one, he believes that the Mossad was behind the Mumbai massacre. (Read here.) After accusing a fellow forum member of using the "megaphone" application (I see a pattern developing) he writes:
"Here's something to chew on. Why has there been tons upon tons of "news articles" focusing on the....what...5(?)...Jews killed in Mumbai? Nevermind the other few HUNDRED goyim that died right? Was Mossad involved?"
Nice crowd at the Ron Paul Forum.

Argentine general sentenced to life for murder of 15 year old, other rights abuses
Argentine general sentenced to life for rights abuses
The former general who ran a base that was the backdrop for multiple abuses during Argentina's 1976-83 dictatorship was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday for human rights violations.Santiago Omar Riveros, 86, who commanded the Campo de Mayo barracks near Buenos Aires, was found guilty of torturing and beating to death 15-year-old Floréal Avellaneda, and abducting his mother, Iris.
The teenager and his mother were arrested at their home a month after the March 1976 military coup.
Iris told the court they were both tortured to find out the whereabouts of her son's father, who had managed to escape capture by jumping from his rooftop when neighbours warned him of the police raid.
"They applied an electric current to my armpits, breasts, mouth, genitals and did exactly the same to my son" she told the judges. "I started to scream... They asked me where his father was, but I did not know."
The teenager's corpse later washed up on the Uruguayan coast, bound hand and foot, with a deep wound in one leg and signs of beating, prosecutors said.
The mother was released after nearly three years of detention.
The youth's father, who shares the same name, said he was satisfied with the verdict, but called for Riveros to receive no clemency.
"The sentence must be served in a common prison. Even if he dies in prison, he will never suffer what we suffered," said the former Communist Party union leader.
Former Buenos Aires Police Chief Fernando Verplaetsen was also sentenced on Wednesday, receiving 25 years in prison in connection with the crimes.
Four other defendants were sentenced to between eight and 18 years.
Riveros was first convicted in 1985 and pardoned in 1989, but was later charged with kidnapping babies, children and other of the era's so-called disappeared.

During the years of junta rule, some 30,000 people vanished and are still unaccounted for.
Conservatives who take torture lightly
Yes, you read that correctly. Conservative websites are now marketing T-shirts which read "I'd rather be waterboarding". Here, for example. And here.
I admit that I got this story secondhand. I find reading Drudge to be sheer enhanced interrogation technique.

Hungarians to protest neo-Nazi violence
Citizens Against the Far Right (Civilek a Szélsőjobb Ellen Mozgalom)
International Day of Peaceful Protest Against the Far Right
Saturday 15 August 2009, 5.30-10 pm
Budapest (5th district), Városház park
The Citizens Against the Far Right movement was born when the Hungarian Leftwing Feminist Network held a peaceful demonstration on 15 August 2000.
To date, 54 civic groups, including anti-Fascists, Jewish organizations, Roma organizations, gay rights groups, green organizations and humanists, have come together under the umbrella of Citizens against the Far Right, to protest against the racism and anti-Semitism that is increasingly widespread in Hungarian society.
The two pressing reasons for our demonstration now are the following:
First, neo-Nazi groups from across Europe plan to come in their thousands to Hungary on 15 August 2009 to commemorate the death of Rudolph Hess (Hitler’s deputy). Numerous neo-Nazi organizations and their supporters plan to occupy popular public squares across Budapest.
Second, in the past few days, Hungary has witnessed yet another racially-motivated fatal shooting of a 45-year-old Roma woman, and the critical wounding of her 13-year-old daughter, now in a medically-induced coma to help her survive her gunshot wounds. Racially-motivated violent crimes have become an everyday occurrence from the smallest village to the streets of the capital city.
Citizens Against the Far Right welcomes all those who reject hatred, homophobia, anti-Semitism, who want to fight against national fundamentalist, national socialist ideas, who reject exclusion, racism and violence to take part in an International Day of Peaceful Protest Against the Far Right, on Saturday, 15 August 2009, in Budapest (5th district), Városház park (City Hall Park, near Deák tér Metro), from 5.30 to 10 pm.
An anti-democratic, anti-Semitic, and racist minority that openly advocates political terrorism is running rampant in Hungary today.
They openly proclaim their violent nationalist-fundamentalist, militant, hateful slogans, favoring discrimination against ethnic groups and alternative lifestyles. The results of the 2009 European Parliamentary elections show that Hungarian society is not willing to accept cultural differences, nor to accept that all ethnic groups have an equal place in contemporary Hungary.
Radical Far Right groups are offering easy solutions to that layer of Hungarian society which is frustrated with the political culture, and seeks security in the face of economic crisis. They use twisted logic and historical falsification to mislead the frustrated masses with the promise of a ‘better future’. We can see through their efforts to glorify the perpetrators of crimes against humanity in twentieth-century Europe. Their actions are destroying the international reputation of our country, and creating fear in the hearts and minds of our democratic citizens.
Under these circumstances, we, the Citizens Against the Far Right – with the support of international democratic forces – are committed to fighting against the violent politics and program of the Far Right.
We can only fight barbarism with humanism!
Local politicians have not been invited to lead the demonstration; rather, we have invited a number of prominent public figures to speak, including the philosopher Miklós Gáspár Tamás, poet András Simon, writer Ákos Kertész, and feminist historian Andrea Alföldi. The demonstration will also welcome a number of musicians and groups on stage.
International communities and activists are standing together to fight the recent rise of the Far Right.

Limbaugh compares Dems to Nazis; claims Obama uses Nazi imagery
There, you can read about Rush's
"reaction to the Obama health care logo the other day. I mentioned something about it reminded me of Germany in 1942, the shape of the logo, the people. I said, "I haven't seen this in many, many years." And if you go and take a look at this, you will find that the Obama health care logo is damn close to a Nazi swastika logo. I'm going to show you people watching on the Dittocam this, and there you are. The middle frame is the Obama health care logo. At the bottom is an official Nazi logo, eagle and everything, spread wings, or bird with spread wings. Ms. Pelosi has some major apologizing to do. I know that numerous repeated Botox injections can cause blurry vision, but I don't think Ms. Pelosi can use that as an excuse. They are really unraveling. They are really falling apart."
I'd show you Rush's graphic, but it's so dumb, what's the point. OK, I'll show it, via Reason.com:
Good god this is dumb. If use of the caduceus in a logo is inherently fascist, perhaps Limbaugh will protest our National Socialist doctors in the United States Army Medical Corps:
If you manage to trudge through Limbaugh's incoherent rant about Nazi logos and Obama, you'll also be informed that the initial production of the Volkswagen was "right out of the playbook of the environmentalist wackos." Yeah, I don't get it either.
Now this?
OUTRAGE! Roma woman shot dead in Hungary. Fascists advocate similar violence in Slovakia.
A 45 year-old Roma woman was shot dead, her 13 year-old daughter severely wounded by unknown attackers in Kisléta during the night of Sunday/Monday. (Kisléta, with its 1 900-strong population, lies 60 km from Tiszalök and 30 km east from Nyíregyháza). Following the murder, Hungarian National Police High Commissioner József Bencze doubled the reward offered for information about the identity of the criminals involved in attacks against Roma, stated the Hungarian National Police. The 100 million Hungarian Forint reward is the highest in the history of Hungarian criminology (the reward was upped for the last time on April 25th by the High Commissioner, to 50 million Hungarian Forint). The National Investigation Office took over the investigation of the crime committed in Kisléta on Monday at dawn.
The woman was shot by pellet gun in one of the last houses of a street lying at the edge of the village. The bullets hit her on her chest, head and arm. Her daughter was wounded on the neck and arm and was transported to András Jósa Hospital in Nyíregyháza.
The 13 year-old girl’s condition has been stabilized and is satisfactory but serious and life-threatening, said Pál Felföldi, lead traumatologist. (…) Since there are no eyewitnesses in the case, police are watching over the girl outside the intensive care unit where she is currently treated, because she might be in possession of important information about the attackers.
There might have been two of them
The crime scene investigation, the gathering of evidence and the search for and questioning of eventual witnesses went on until early afternoon in Bocskai Street, at the edge of the village, behind which lies a corn field. A dirt road nearby leads towards Nyírbogát, which the attackers probably used for their escape.
According to the Hungarian Press Agency (MTI), shots were fired from two hunting guns on the family, meaning that there were at least two attackers. The police found cartridge cases coming from the pellet guns. They were given to the National Investigation Office experts for examination in Budapest.
According to the Hungarian Press Agency (MTI), the examination ascertained that similar firearms had been used in several attacks against Roma. According to the police, several details of the attack fit with the pattern of the successive attacks on Roma. This is why the investigation was taken over by the National Investigation Office, which opened an inquiry for murder attempted against several persons.
Three-four shots were heard
Mayor Sándor Pénzes told Index that the neighbors had heard three of four shots on Sunday between 11.30 p.m. and 12 p.m. The attacker or attackers kicked the entrance door in and started firing at once. The victims were found by family members. The girl has not yet been questioned as she is still in a state of shock. Her wounds are serious, she is currently in the intensive care unit, there is no precise information as to her condition.
According to Sándor Pénzes, relations between Hungarians and Roma in the village are very good. „The victim was a hard-working woman. She was raising her daughter alone, amidst clean and healthy conditions.” – said the mayor. Mária B. was a widow and had two daughters. The family works regularly and gets social welfare as well. „The whole village is astonished about this execution. We don’t know what could have motivated the murderers.” – said the mayor to the Hungarian Press Agency.
and here from Amnesty International USA:
A Romani woman was shot dead in the village of Kisléta in Eastern Hungary, early Monday morning (August 3, 2009). The 45-year-old woman's 13-year-old daughter was also seriously injured in the attack.
Initial police reports suggest that the incident is related to a series of attacks targeting Romani communities in Hungary. Amnesty International has voiced concern about the growing number of attacks against the Romani community in Hungary and the failure of the police to investigate effectively.
The organization said that it welcomed the decision that the killing and its apparent racial motive will be investigated by the Hungarian National Bureau of Investigation. The agency was established specifically to investigate serious crimes.
Between January 2008 and June 2009, the European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) documented 39 attacks against Roma and their property. Eight people have died in these attacks.
27-year-old Róbert Csorba and his five-year-old son were killed whilst fleeing their house which was set on fire in a suspected arson attack in Tatárszentgyörgy in February. Jenõ Kóka, a 54-year-old Romani man, was shot dead as he left his home to make his way to the nightshift in the local chemical factory where he worked in Tiszalök on 22 April.
Last November, a man and woman were shot after their house was petrol bombed in Nagycsécs, a village in north eastern Hungary. The increasing number of attacks against Romani individuals and their homes has created a climate of fear and intimidation.
"The Hungarian Government has firmly condemned the attacks against members of the Romani community," said Nicola Duckworth, Director of the Europe and Central Asia Programme of Amnesty International. "This is a welcome move, but what is most urgently required is an effective police investigation.”
In the Tatárszentgyörgy case, the head of the local criminal department violated the rules of the investigation, according to a report issued by ERRC, the Legal Defence Bureau for National and Ethnic Minorities (NEKI) and the Hungarian Civil Liberties Union (TASZ). (That report is available here in pdf.)
Amnesty International has voiced concern that there might be more cases of attacks that remain unreported and is urging the Hungarian authorities to take positive action to address underlying prejudices against the Romani community.
In its 2009 Report on Hungary, the European Commission Against Racism and Intolerance noted that the "victims of such acts may often be reluctant to report the racist elements of violent offences against the person, whether owing to a sense of shame, due to fear of retribution, or because they feel it is unlikely that serious follow-up will be given to this aspect of a crime."
Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai has called on the leadership of the national police to act to prevent further attacks on Roma. (Read here.) Details about what actions police will take to protect Roma are scanty. According to some reports (read here) a special police network will act as a task force to react to anti-Roma violence, presumably to prevent a replay of the sort of police cooperation with racist murderers evidenced in Tatárszentgyörgy.
